Manatee Literacy Council Welcomes Marisol Garcia as Board President
The Manatee Literacy Council is pleased to announce that Marisol Garcia will serve as the organization’s 2026–2028 Board President, beginning July 1, 2026.
A Manatee County native, Garcia has built a respected career advancing strategic outreach initiatives and strengthening community outcomes. As the child of immigrants, Garcia shares a deep personal connection to the mission of the Manatee Literacy Council. She is passionate about expanding equitable access to learning, strengthening community capacity, and supporting adult learners in their pursuit of independence through literacy and the American dream.
The Manatee Literacy Council also extends its deepest gratitude to Roger Boos, who has served as Board President for the past five years and has dedicated nearly 19 years of service to the organization. During his longtime service, Boos has contributed in nearly every capacity on the Board, offering steady leadership, institutional knowledge, and unwavering commitment to MLC’s mission.
“Roger’s service to the Manatee Literacy Council has been extraordinary,” said Michelle Desveaux McLean, Executive Director of the Manatee Literacy Council. “For almost two decades, he has given his time, wisdom, and leadership to help ensure that adults in our community have access to the literacy support they need. His impact on this organization is immeasurable.”
Under Boos’ leadership, the Manatee Literacy Council strengthened its programs, expanded community partnerships, and continued serving adult learners working toward greater independence through reading, writing, English language learning, and life skills. His years of dedication have helped shape the organization’s stability, growth, and continued commitment to adult literacy in Manatee County.
As the Manatee Literacy Council continues to expand its services and partnerships, Garcia’s leadership will play an important role in supporting the organization’s next chapter of growth and impact.
