Bradenton, FL — 12/9/25 — The Manatee Literacy Council announces that it has been awarded an $80,000 grant from Bishop-Parker Foundation to strengthen staffing to support the organization’s expanding English and literacy programs for adults in Manatee County.

Bishop-Parker Foundation’s investment will directly support critical staffing, enabling  Manatee Literacy Council to meet increasing demand for free, high-quality English and literacy instruction. Nearly 68,000 adults in Manatee County face significant literacy barriers, and sustainable staffing is essential to ensuring that learners receive the individualized support necessary to achieve their personal, family, and workforce goals.

“We are incredibly grateful to Bishop-Parker Foundation for this generous investment in our mission,” said Michelle Desveaux McLean, Executive Director of the Manatee Literacy Council. “With nearly 68,000 adults in Manatee County facing significant literacy barriers, the need for accessible, supportive programs has never been greater. This grant allows us to sustain the people who make our work possible, our dedicated staff who guide, encourage, and empower our learners every day.”

With this support from Bishop-Parker, the Manatee Literacy Council is better equipped to meet the rising need for English and literacy programs in Manatee County. This investment brings us one step closer to our vision of a community where every adult has the tools to learn, thrive, and build a stronger future for themselves and their families.
