Bradenton, FL (May 15, 2026) — The Manatee Literacy Council is honored to announce it has received a $6,400 grant from the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation to support a new virtual English Conversation Class designed for native Spanish-speaking adults living in Lakewood Ranch and the surrounding communities.

This new initiative will provide free online conversational English instruction focused on helping adult learners build confidence in speaking, listening, and everyday communication. The class is specifically designed to support adults at the fundamental and beginning English levels who may not yet feel comfortable participating in traditional English conversation groups.

“We are deeply grateful to the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation for supporting this important program,” said Michelle Desveaux McLean. “This partnership allows us to reach adults who are eager to improve their English skills but often face barriers related to transportation, work schedules, or confidence. Strong communication skills help adults participate more fully in their workplaces, support their families, and become more connected to the community.”

The virtual format allows learners to participate from home using a phone, tablet, or computer, helping make English instruction more accessible to busy working adults and families throughout the region. The program will combine guided conversation practice, supportive instruction, and digital learning tools to encourage consistent language development and increased confidence.

The Manatee Literacy Council will continue to share program updates, learner success stories, and community impact throughout the year as part of its ongoing partnership with the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation.

Adults interested in participating in the program can learn more or complete an application through the Manatee Literacy Council website. Additional information about the Foundation can be found at Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation.
