The Selby Foundation Supports Adult Literacy

Bradenton, FL — 12/10/25 —

The Manatee Literacy Council (MLC) is pleased to announce it has received a $14,704 grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation to modernize its technology infrastructure and enhance digital learning for adult English and literacy students across Manatee County.

This grant supports a comprehensive upgrade of MLC’s instructional and administrative technology, including improvements to classroom interactivity, device access for learners, and staff technology essential for program delivery. The funding will also allow MLC to update its website, making it more accessible and easier for learners, volunteers, and community partners to navigate.

“These technology enhancements will significantly strengthen our ability to provide high-quality instruction to adults who are working hard to improve their English, literacy, and workforce skills,” said Michelle Desveaux McLean, Executive Director of the Manatee Literacy Council. “The Selby Foundation’s investment comes at a pivotal time as demand for our programs continues to rise, and it ensures we can serve our community with modern, effective tools.”

The upgrades funded through this grant will expand learning opportunities, improve classroom engagement, and help MLC reach more adults seeking English language and literacy instruction, advancing the organization’s mission to empower adults in Manatee County through education and opportunity.
